About the Cassese Foundation

The Antonio Cassese Foundation for Justice, Peace and Humanity (Cassese Foundation) is a non-profit organization legally recognized as a foundation (Stichting) under Dutch law. It was established in 2015. President of the Foundation is ACIL Member Harmen van der Wilt.

The Cassese Foundation was established to endow with juridical personality the Antonio Cassese Initiative for Justice, Peace and Humanity. This Initiative was created a few months after the death of Antonio Cassese (in October 2011), one of the leading voices of contemporary international criminal law, in order to perpetuate his name. The Cassese Foundation continues to pursue the Initiative’s main aims, which are providing education and training and promoting operative research in various fields dear to Antonio Cassese, including international criminal law, international humanitarian law and human rights law. The Cassese Foundation is able to rely on a network of high-level academics and practitioners as well as human rights activists willing to offer and to put their skills and experience at the disposal of the Foundation.

Initiator of the Cassese Foundation is Paola Gaeta, professor of international law at the Graduate Institute Geneva. Project Developer is Marta Bo (UvA).
