Jackson Oldfield PhD Candidate at ACIL

Jackson Oldfield will start as PhD Candidate at the ACIL as of September, working on a project on the history of smuggling in international law.

Oldfield is a graduate of Lund University, Sweden and Cardiff University, U.K., where he undertook a LLM in International Human Rights Law and International Labour Rights and a LLB in Law respectively. Since obtaining his LLM, Oldfield has worked in a range of research and research coordination positions in human rights-focused civil society organisations, looking at topics from corruption to business and human rights and democracy in Europe.

Oldfield's research activities, embedded within the Law and Justice Across Borders priority area, look at the history of smuggling in international law and in particular the development of people smuggling as a crime in international law and its relationship to earlier prohibitions on the smuggling of goods.
