Sean Shun Ming Yau PhD Candidate at ACIL

Sean Shun Ming Yau is a PhD candidate working as of September 2018 on the VICI project “Rethinking the Outer Limits of Secondary Liability for International Crimes and Serious Human Rights Violations”.

Prior to joining the University of Amsterdam, Sean was a research assistant at the UN International Law Commission and the Human Rights Institute, Columbia Law School. Upon completing his law studies (LL.B., Hong Kong; LL.M., Leiden), Sean worked as a judicial intern at the International Criminal Court.  Sean is also a reporter at Oxford Reports on International Law.

Sean is one of three PhD candidates working on the research project “The Outer Limits of Secondary Liability for International Crimes and Serious Human Rights Violations.” The research project is directed by prof. Göran Sluiter, and is funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), by means of a VICI-grant. Sean will complete his PhD under the supervision of Göran Sluiter and Denis Abels.
