PROFILE

Jean d’Aspremont is Professor of Public International Law at the University of Manchester, where he founded the Manchester International Law Centre (MILC), and Professor of International Legal Theory at the University of Amsterdam. He is General Editor of the Cambridge Studies in International and Comparative Law and Director of Oxford International Organizations (OXIO). He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Journal of International Law and series editor of the Melland Schill Studies in International Law. He has acted as counsel in proceedings before the International Court of Justice. Professor d’Aspremont has published widely in the field of international law, having authored several books and edited volumes as well as more than 90 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Some of his articles have been translated in several languages including Spanish, Hindi, and Persian. He has delivered more than 100 talks in academic institutions across the world over the last 10 years.

RESEARCH

His areas of research include most major subjects of general Public International Law and, in particular, questions pertaining to the Law of International Organizations, Statehood, Sources of International Law, State Responsibility, International Dispute Settlement, International Humanitarian Law and International Legal Theory.
