Koen Vriend is universitair docent straf- en strafprocesrecht. Hij legt zich toe op het strafrechtelijk bewijsrecht.

Onderwijs 

Koen geeft de vakken:

- Bewijzen in het strafrecht (LLM Publiekrecht, traject Strafrecht) en

- Criminal Law and Expert Evidence (MSc Forensic Science).

Daarnaast begeleidt hij bacheloressays en masterscripties. 

Onderzoek

Koen's promotieonderzoek betreft de vereenvoudigde afdoening van strafzaken. Zijn proefschrift is getiteld: Avoiding a Full Criminal Trial: Fair Trial Rights, Diversions, and Shortcuts in Dutch and International Criminal Proceedings. De openbare verdediging van het proefschrift vond plaats op 31 mei 2016.  Hij publiceert daarnaast over het bewijsrecht en forensische expertise in strafzaken.

Koen Vriend is assistant professor of criminal law and criminal procedure.

Teaching

Koen teaches the courses: 

- Evidence law (LLM, track Criminal law), and

- Criminal law and expert evidence (MSc, Forensic Science).

He also supervises LLB and LLM theses. 

Research 

Koen's PhD research concerns the use of trial avoiding mechanisms in criminal cases. His thesis is called: Avoiding a Full Criminal Trial: Fair Trial Rights, Diversions, and Shortcuts in Dutch and International Criminal Proceedings. The public defence took place on 31 May 2016.  In addition, he frequently publishes on the law of evidence in criminal proceedings.
