Apart from Business and Human Rights, Debadatta remains interested in Third World Approaches to International Law and Public International Law in general.

He completed his LL.M. (cum laude) in International and European Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam where he placed first in the International Law track. Prior to his LL.M., he completed a 5 year dual degree of B.A. and LL.B. (Honours) from Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University in India, also ranking first rank of his cohort and receiving several certificates of excellence. With his long-standing interest in corporate and international law, he completed internships with barristers and top law firms in India as well with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He has also been involved in legislative drafting and reform of legal education in India.
