Educational Background
Debadatta Bose is a doctoral researcher under the Sustainable Global Economic Law project, part of the sector plan Transformative Effects of Globalisation in Law. The Sustainable Global Economic Law project is a joint project of the Amsterdam Centre for International Law, the Amsterdam Centre for Transformative Private Law and the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance. Debadatta's doctoral project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Stephan Schill (Professor of International and Economic Law and Governance), Prof. Dr. Aukje van Hoek (Professor of Private International Law and Civil Procedure), Dr. Geraldo Vidigal (Assistant Professor in International Trade Law and Public International Law), and Dr. Klaas Hendrik Eller (Assistant Professor of European Private Law).
In the academic year 2021-22, Debadatta was an Affiliated Fellow at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics, Tel Aviv University Buchmann Faculty of Law.
He received his LL.M. in International and European Union Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam (cum laude) with the first rank in the International Law track. He was also the first-rank holder (gold medallist) in the 5-year B.A., LL.B. (Honours) degree from the Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University in India.
Research Focus
Debadatta's research focuses on the conceptual sustainability of legal liability for directly linked enterprises, as under the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights, in recent human rights due diligence legislations. This research fuses legal theoretical discussions on the morality and ethics of corporate respect for human rights with a relational justice account of private law to discern how corporate liability can be sustained throughout the supply chain and how human rights due diligence plays a legal role in doing so.
