Starting in autumn 2021, Dr. Michal Swarabowicz is a SNF postdoctoral research fellow at ACIL. His research project concentrates on the interplay between international economic law, private law, business practices, and economic thought in formalizing and managing the problem of political risk in international economic relations.

Michał J. Swarabowicz graduated with a PhD in international law from the Graduate Institute in 2021. In his thesis, Dr. Swarabowicz analyzed the doctrinal moves which had enabled the emergence of a special regime of investment protection within international law.

Before the PhD, Dr. Swarabowicz completed the LLM in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) in 2014, a master degree in Global Business Law and Governance (2011-12) - a joint program between Columbia Law School, Sorbonne University, and Sciences Po Paris - and the dual bachelor degree in economics awarded by the Sciences Po Paris and by the Warsaw School of Economics in 2010. He worked with the Shearman & Sterling’s arbitration practice in Paris, the Polish ministry of environment, and at the Centre for Eastern Studies, a government-affiliated think tank focusing on Russia and Eurasia.

A short synopsis of his PhD thesis, and of the current research, is available here and here.
