Zhonghua Du begins her PhD at ACIL

Since September 2021, Zhonghua Du is a PhD researcher at ACIL. Her research project, co-supervised by Professor Ingo Venzke and Professor André Nollkaemper, focuses on the positioning of corporate responsibilities in international law, in particular, “why” there is an absence of directly applicable corporate legal responsibilities under international law, and “how” public international law approaches voluntary commitments by corporations.
Her research pays special attention to corporate responsibilities in relation to climate change. Her research is funded by University of Amsterdam - China Scholarship Council PhD Programme.
Prior to joining ACIL, Zhonghua Du completed a Bachelor in Law (L.L.B) at the Law School of Peking University (first honors), and a Magister Juris (MJur) at University of Oxford (merit). She interned at ECCC, Human Rights Institute of IBA, and the Beijing Office of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
