On 1 September, Amy Crean joined the Amsterdam Centre for International Law (ACIL) as a PhD researcher in International Law. Her research will be carried out as part of the Sustainable Global Economic Law (SGEL) research project at the University of Amsterdam, and will be supervised by Dr Andrea Leiter, Dr Johanna Lorenzo and Dr Janne Nijman.

Amy's research examines how interpretations of legal personality have developed and impact environmental justice, and seeks to explore alternative avenues for legal participation. Her work focuses on rights of nature and relational approaches to climate action.

Amy obtained her Bachelor in Civil Law from University College Dublin with a Minor in Social Justice, and a Master in Law (LL.M) from UvA in Public International Law. Prior to commencing her PhD, she worked as a regulatory consultant at an international professional services firm, and holds research experience as a student research assistant in Dublin and as a legal consultant at UvA's International Law clinic.
