During the Facultijd of 11 December 2026 Kanad received an official award document and €1.000 for research as the winner. The prize was presented by the jury, consisting of Andrea Leiter, Hannah von Kolfschooten and Jerfi Uzman.
The jury report states: 'The winning paper takes an outstanding interdisciplinary approach which connects legal, historical, and socio-political perspectives. It weaves together international financial law, historical analysis, and Third World Approaches to International Law. In doing so, the paper offers a nuanced and critical account of monetary policy developments over the past decades, foregrounding perspectives and experiences of the Global South. Its rigorous methodology and innovative insights position it as a truly foundational contribution to this specific field. One that is likely to become a key point of reference for scholars and practitioners seeking to understand the evolving dynamics of global finance through a decolonial lens.'
